ROTARY INTERNATIONAL
Rotary is dedicated to causes that build international relationships, improve lives, and create a better world to support our peace efforts and end polio forever.
The Rotary Foundation (TRF) provides financial support for seven areas of service around the world:
- Peace and conflict prevention/resolution
- Disease prevention and treatment
- Water and sanitation
- Maternal and child health
- Basic education and literacy
- Economic and community development
- Supporting the environment

In Guatemala many rural cities and in particular the surrounding villages have limited or no health services. In Santa Catarina Mita, Rotarians have collaborated with the Municipality and the non-profit Fraternidad Catarineca over many years to establish a Medical Center, where out-of-town doctors provided services in general-medicine, gynecology, vision, pediatric, dental and ear/nose/throat. The medical equipment in the Center has been purchased through a Rotary Matching Grant (2007) and three Rotary Global Grants (2014 to 2020), which provide matching of contributions by Rotary Clubs through The Rotary Foundation. The latest Grant added a blood diagnostic laboratory and a recuperation room for emergency treatment to the Center. In addition, the Center conducts outreach programs into surrounding villages and conducts yearly health fairs. The Center is set-up to be a self-sustained operation by charging affordable service fees, while offering free services for needy people in return for community service. In 2019 a total of 2750 people received health services through the Center. The free outreach programs and free health fairs need continued support from our Club.
